Would you buy a snowboard made by a ski company?
Or would the fact that their main priority is skiing put you off?. What do you think of companys like Salomon, Volkl, Atomic, K2, Rossignol or any other ski/snowboard company like that. Are their products as good quality as snowboard only companys such as Forum, Rome, Burton etc.
Socalrid yeah Ride is owned by k2 which is a ski and snowboard company, but as a brand themselves they only make snowboards.
My first board was a Ride Timeless which was an awesome board that I rode for almost 6 seasons.
My current board is a LibTech which although wasn’t (until 06/07) a ski company is part of an apparel, surf, shoe, and…I don’t know what else company.
So I guess my answer is yes…
What’s really most important to me the the quality and performance of the board itself. Beyond that some folks may also make a concious choice around the philosophy and type of company or brand they support (i.e. big corporation vs specialized shop).
It’s all a matter of personal choice, I guess.

Use your best guess. Does it look really cruddy or is it nice? My advise would be know because they are if they are known as a ski company, that probably means that’s what they’re best at.

Sure. Just as long as the board itself gives good performance and the price is right, then I would buy from any brand, whether they are a ski or snowboard only company.
I demo’d a couple Salomon boards awhile back which I liked.
Didn’t the Atomic Alibi snowboard have the best "good wood?" review from Transworld’s Mag? I also heard good things about their Atomic Hatchet park board. They are both sold at a lower price too than other boards with similar specs and material.
Is Ride from a Ski company? Well I have a Ride Control which was my beginner board. Almost bought a Ride Timeless couple years ago.

There is probably nothing wrong with boards made by ski companies, but if you want the best quality board stay away from them. Lib-Tech. is the best.

One of my all time favorite boards is a Rossignol Levitation and K2 has been making quality boards longer than most board only companies. That said, I find that as I get older I care about where my money goes just as much as I care about what I get for my money. I find more and more that the ski companies, who tried to keep boards off the hill in the beginning, are now trying to cash in on the success of snowboarding today. I don’t think they really care about snowboarding nor do they really give anything back to the snowboarding community.
Now, the snowboard companies like Burton, Rome, Endeavor, Neversummer, Arbor and so many more are owned by snowboarders who realize that snowboarding is more than just a business, it’s a way of life. These companies are on the forefront of technology and style. Look at the Burton Team and the events B puts on. The US Open is the oldest and arguably the most prestigious snowboard competition in the world. Burton’s LTR program combines the right equipment with a proven method of instruction that helps teach people the joy of riding. Companies like Rome and Endeavor are on the cutting edge of tech and style while Arbor is leading the environmental charge by utilizing alternative "green" materials and sustainable practices. Neversummer makes boards by hand in Colorado by people who you know shred every chance they get. These are the guys I want to support.

Production wise, ski companies have more technology and the same skill as the snowboard companies. Quality wise they are as good as.

depends on the ski company. i would buy a K2 board, but i would never touch a rossignol, or atomic. i think hard core snowboard companys are always better, but some select ski companys make good snowboards too.

I stay away from ski brands that decided to jump on the bandwagon and make snowboards only because its lucrative. Snowboard companies know whats really at the heart of snowboarding and make a better product, in my mind.
